They are software that are free to use/copy, study,
modify and redistribute the source code.

They are computer Software in which the source code are available
for the user.
Open source software are developed collaboratively and
usually involve a community of developers.

for Open source Software include the GNU General Publice License (GPL), Apache
license, MIT License
Example
of Open source software
are Mozilla firefox, GIMP,
Libreoffice, Apache Web Server, GNU/Linux OS, Android, VLC media player.
Advantages
They are free
The software are free to use, modify and re-distribute
the source code.
Disadvantages
Security, since the source code are available, hackers
might know loopholes and weaknesses of the software more easily than closed
sourced software.
